Graphic design jobs in 2018 are proving to be the most popular in the UK, with almost half of job seekers claiming a graphic design job, according to a new study.
The report from the Graphic Designers Union also revealed that more than half of graphic design graduates have moved on to full-time work.
It said this year’s graduates had seen their pay rise by a third, but it said the job market had been tougher than in previous years.
Graphic design was the top profession for people who had left school to work, with just over 40 per cent of those who left said they had gone into the industry as a full-timer.
Some graduates had made a career in advertising and design, with 29 per cent earning full-year salaries, according the report.
But the majority of those employed in the sector had left university and had become freelance designers, it said.
Graphic Design is a creative career with a high demand and the jobs that are created in the digital age demand highly skilled design and graphic designers with an advanced knowledge of digital media.
It is not just about creating digital content, the report said, but also about creating content that people can consume.
The study found that the most lucrative jobs were for people with design degrees, but graphic design was a relatively popular career, with nearly half of graduates making a living from it.
But there are some graphic designers who have found it hard to find work.
The survey found that nearly three-quarters of graphic designers surveyed had been laid off in the past year, with more than a third of graduates leaving the profession.
And graphic design, which involves creating content using digital technologies, has seen a rise in job vacancies over the past two years.
The average weekly wage of a graphic designer is £14,200, with the median wage being £22,500.
Some graphic designers have found work in creative industries, including advertising and photography, where salaries are much higher, while others have been working as designers.
But it is a challenge to find jobs that pay well, the survey found, with only three-fourths of graduates with graphic design degrees earning the median salary.
The industry also struggles to attract top talent, with graduates being far more likely to leave the profession in the early years, said Graphic Design Professionals UK chief executive, David Anderson.
“As a profession, we’ve lost a huge amount of talent in the last couple of years, and we need to make sure that those graduates are still there,” he said.
“We have seen that people who do well in graphic design have been able to work in a range of different industries, but the key is finding those people that are looking for work.”
The survey also found that graduates who had studied graphic design at university had a lower salary than those who had not, and that those who have completed their degree were less likely to find a job.
More on the graphic design profession Graphic design is a design and design-related field with an emphasis on visual design, graphic design software and digital media, according in the report published by the Graphic Designer’s Union.
This includes designers and graphic artists, digital designers, design studios and graphic design agencies.
But not all graphic design students choose to pursue a career as a graphic artist, with some opting to pursue more vocational skills.
“It is a great industry and we are proud to see that a lot of young people are choosing to go into this, and they are choosing from a variety of different fields,” Mr Anderson said.
He said that while it was vital for graphic design to attract graduates with a degree, there were still areas of the job that could be improved.
“One of the problems that we see in the job markets is that many young people who are graduating from college are going to be in industries where they don’t have much training and where they have limited access to a range the skills that they need to be able to fill those roles,” he added.
“There is a huge gap between what young people want and what the industry is offering.
The future of the industry in terms of how many graduates are going into the job and how many are left out is really up to employers and recruiters.”
It is estimated that the average salary for graphic designers was £24,000 a year, and the median was £18,000.
Graphic designers were paid significantly less than graphic designers in the tech sector, with graphic designers earning a median salary of just £13,000 and the graphic designer with the highest salary was the software engineer who took the top job in 2017.
Mr Anderson believes that the sector will see more graduates, especially in the creative industries that are booming, entering the job in the years to come.
“If we are going backwards, it will be because the economy is going backwards,” he told the BBC.
“In the future we are all going to have to work harder, and work smarter, and it will require a lot more creative talent and designers.”
Graphic design graduates with more education are more likely than those with less, with a
